“Italy’s siren call lures us more and more.“ – Frances Mayes

The Sorrento and Amalfi Coasts are the setting for one of Ulysses’ greatest adventures in Homer’s epic poem the Odyssey. As the poem goes, the mermaids (sirens) inhabited this coastal area, where they lured sailors to a watery end with their beauty and their hypnotic songs. The most famous of these mermaids is Parthenope.  In order to avoid the temptation of Parthenope, Ulysses asked the crew to tie him to the ship mast and he succeeded in passing. Because Parthenope was so ashamed by her failure to catch Ulysses, she killed herself on the small island “Megarde” (now Catel dell’Ovo in Naples).  In the vicinity of this small island, the Greeks founded the “Nea’Polis” or “New Town” hence, what we know today as Napoli (Naples). The people of Naples are still known to this day as “Partenopei”. The myth of the mermaid is a metaphor for the danger and the beauty of the stunning coasts. Hence, the name of our company and our mermaid logo.

Isidoro likes to say that on these same coasts, he has been “caught” by me (Monica), his American mermaid, which always makes me laugh. I love the irony that he is from Naples and I am from Newtown. We have been through much together; a Covid Travel Ban separation of 290-days, immigration in both the United States and Italy, moves to each other’s countries, blending families and friends, learning each other’s cultures, etc. We believe this makes us a strong, resourceful, and resilient team.

A few things never waiver; our love for each other and our love for Italy. Our business goal is for you to absolutely love Italy as much as we do. We believe that our knowledge of Italy, creative planning and thoughtful oversight of your trip or tour - - from start to finish - - make all of the difference.
